image The atmosphere was festive on Sunday December 30, as Lions of yesteryear took to the field to play their present contemporaries in the annual Lions football match. The more experienced Loins showed age is just a number as they out played and out classed the younger Lions with excellent passing and movement. Clarence “Bailey” Benjamin moved like a cat as he orchestrated each wave of attack from the older Lions. It was like he never stopped playing as he deceived the younger player with his football acumen.

The constant pressure from the older Lions caused the older men to score first as Valdez Johnson latched on to a cross sending it to the back of the net. It seemed like the men of yesteryear could do no wrong as the defense was stout and the offensive play was clicking on all cylinders.

Then the second half came and the euphoria that had consumed the veteran Lions dissipated as the reality of fatigue set in. Living up to their names the Young Lions soon began running circles around the older comrades. Inevitably the goals started coming but as true Kings they never relented and fought to the very end. They still passed and moved in an orchestrated manner. Consequently they had several opportunities to score goals but were unable to make any conversions due to fatigue and some ring rust.

Though the match culminated in favor of the younger Lions, there were several things that came to mind;

 · Introduce an old Lions versus Old Attackers match

 · Probably introduce a league for older players
