Banks led Leeward islands (LI) were defeated by 5 wickets on the the final day of their 3-day encounter against Jamaica in their first-round Carib Beer series match at Sabina Park on Sunday.  The loss followed two days of battling by the young Leewards captained by Omari Banks and featuring young Montcin Hodge.

Banks remained optimistic after restricting Jamaica's first innings total to 224, in response to a weak first innings total of 155 by the Leewards. Despite a top score 64 from fellow Anguillian Montcin Hodge in the second innings however, the Leewards could only set Jamaica a target of 115, being bowled out for 188.

Continuing to battle against the odds the LI bowlers managed to restrict Jamaica to  35 for four at tea. Overall they captured five wickets before Jamaica, late on the final day, reached their desired target.
