The Valley was ablaze with a rainbow of colours on Sunday 24 February, as the annual Ashley and Sons road relay race commandeered the area.  Present were the six primary schools, the five houses of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School and hordes of supporters.

The Primary School bicycle road relay was the first event of the day. Supporters cheered all athletes  however,  there could only be one winner and that was Road Primary School in both the male and female category.

It was most encouraging to see the smaller schools such as Morris Vanterpool (MVPS) and Island Harbour Primary Schools (IHPS) place amongst the bigger ones.  Kudos must be given to Teacher Connie Smith (MVPS) and Teacher Tracelyn Hamilton (IHPS) as well as her staff for working with her cyclist.

The road relay was just as incredulous as the youngsters streaked through the route.  As usual the bigger schools showed their prowess by trying to create two races within the race. However the boys and girls from Morris Vanterpool Primary stood up to their challenge and made them think twice.

Some talented and promising athletes who showed their true grit were Veronique Rogers, Warnesha Fleming, Alisha Ryan, Ariel Gaskin, Jasmine Ruan, Jurvone Duncan, Saleem Phillip, Romario Fiddler, Shawn Smith and Kevin Gumbs.  Without words, the smaller schools have forewarned their larger counter parts that this sports day will be different.

It was refreshing to see so many parents, grand parents and other family members out supporting their children.  The high school athletes ran very well but Leslie Lake and De Ann Rogers stood head and shoulders above the rest as they created a massive lead from their first leg.  In the end the juice, that is, orange house and Maroon house ran away with the competition.
