Cycling paraded on the streets of Anguilla on Sunday 2nd March, 2008 as the first official race of the season got off to an auspicious start. Participants for the races came from the Dragon Boys, Stingers, Link cycling club of Anguilla and VCJ cycling club of ST. Maarten. The elite race was dominated by Sherwin Osborn (Link cycling club) and Gordon Kennedy (VCJ cycling club). The break away group rode with no remorse as the grueling pace separated the pack into several groups. The punishing pace and team tactics caused many riders to be lapped. Though the boys from the Dragon club worked really hard to get into the lead pack they were unable to bridge the gap. As a result the race was won by Sherwin Osborn (Link cycling club), Gordon Kennedy second (VCJ) and Danny Laud (Dragon Boys cycling club) third. The junior division was just as exciting as parents and fans flocked the streets of Stoney Ground and the finish line, supporting the youngsters. Once again the Link Cycling club showed its prowess by sweeping first through third places. Andy Singh, Nikel Davis and Alrico Connor were the persons who placed respectively 1, 2, 3.
It is hoped that more persons can come out to support the cycling events during the course of the year.
The president of the Link cycling club Mr. George Lake, is inviting persons to join them on their weekly Saturday tour through Anguilla on bicycles, enjoying the many cardiovascular benefits along the way.
