Roaring Lions F.C and Spartans International F.C. contested the finals of the Knock out cup for the Anguilla football association on Sunday. In an effort to bolster their defense, the Roaring Lions turned back the pages of their greats and called on defensive guru Claudius “Claw” Connor and goal keeping legend Bobby Blacks. Connor’s presence allowed for Collin Johnson AKA Culture to play a more aggressive role as a forward. Spartans International and Roaring Lions counter attacked each other but each wave was thwarted by stern defense and miscued shots.
In the 64th minute Kappel Assent (no.9) of Spartans International blasted a ball past a diving Bobby Blacks into the net. Immediately Roaring Lions went on the attack, with several near chances going a begging. In what was deemed a controversial decision, Lions were adjudged to have fouled Spartans International goal keeper, Collin Liddy. This call resulted in the Roaring Lions being denied a goal. None the less the Lions continued blasting away at the goal but it was to no avail. The match result was Spartans International 1, Roaring Lions 0.
Immediately following the game the Football Association awards were given out to the respective teams.
