The Anguilla Female Football League (AFFL) continued on Friday with a match between D’Youngsters (Orange uniform) and Gazelles (Green uniform).
Both teams worked hard at stringing along passes and defense. However, the Gazelles held the Advantage as midfield genius (#10) Mauricia Sadler delighted striker Kristie Webster with a plethora of passes. Webster made her intensions clear by attacking the goal and putting more defensive pressure on D’Youngsters,
which inevitably caused a crack in their defense.
A Gazelles player was fouled in the penalty area of D’Youngsters and the girls in green converted their penalty to take a one-goal lead.
In the second half Kristie Webster (right below) played like a true striker by pouncing on any pass or loose ball the came her way. Her persistence paid off as Youngsters goalkeeper Esther Ward fumbled a shot and she kindly deposited it into the back of the net. This second goal seemed to have emitted fear hormones as Gazelles started to behave like top order predators on the prowl.
They were relentless in trying to attack D’Youngsters. However, one quick counter strike from D’Youngsters talented midfielder Kenisha St.Helia brought them within one goal of leveling the scores. Unfortunately for them, time expired and Gazelles defeated D’Youngsters, with a score of 2 –1.
