Battle of the stars

On Wednesday 18th April, a cataclysmic collision occurred, as the Shining Stars played a tough encounter against the Super Stars in the Anguilla Female Football League (AFFL).  Despite being devoid of midfield guru Jaynelle Lake, the brightness of the Shining Stars negated the presence of the Super Stars. Within the first ten minutes, offensive juggernaut Glenicia ‘Boom Boom Richardson hammered home a goal to giving her team a one goal lead. Several minutes later, Morihinzi Richardson made her presence felt by netting home Shining Stars second goal of the game.

In the second half Melissa Carty of the Super Stars ran circles around the Shining Stars defense. Her tenacity earned her a goal and it pulled her team within one goal of leveling the scores. Despite several close opportunities the Super Stars were unable to score any more goals. The match ended with a well-deserved victory for the Shining Stars with a score line of 2-1.

Shining Stars implode

Friday’s Match between the league leading Shining Stars and Lil Soldiers could be called the mother of all defeats. Lil Soldiers, sporting their new navy blue and white uniforms took the battle straight to the Shining Stars. In approximately ten minutes midfield admiral, Katurah Caines engaged the last defender and scored. Katurah came close to striking again but missed as she kicked the ball wide of the goal. Despite the constant target practice by the Lil Soldiers, the Shining Stars defended like there was no tomorrow.

Persistent attacks soon weakened the armor of the Shining Stars, as Jerilicia Bodwin scored in the 20th minute. Consequently the midfield tandem of Jaynelle “JJ” Lake and Claudena “Deena” Richardson started a passing frenzy as they gave Claudicia ‘Deci” Richardson and Morihinzi Richardson all the passes they could handle. Though they came close on several occasions, the Shining Stars could not see the light as goalkeeper Davier Bryan was not in a giving mood. A few minutes before the end of the first half Melisa “Ando” Anderson gave her team an unassailable lead by scoring the third goal. As the second half progressed Jaynelle and company worked even harder but it was to no avail as they were unable to score. The end result was Lil Soldiers 3, Shining Stars 0.
