Masters vs. Police The Masters Cricket team were reprimanded and interrogated by the Police Cricket Club in what turned out to be a close encounter on Saturday 21st April 2007 in the Caribbean Commercial Bank sponsored 35 over cricket.
Batting first the Masters scored 148 runs from 29.4 overs. John Jeffers top scored with a rapid fire 33 from 22 balls, which included six 4’s. Former national team captains Joseph Gumbs 25 (from 26 balls), and Lawrence Carty 16 (from 23 balls) in addition to Derrick Mitchel 19 from 18 balls were the main contributors for the team. The main wicket takers for the Police were Milington with figures of 4 wickets for 29 runs coming from 5.4 overs.
Medium Pacer Best also tried to rough up the Masters with figures of 1 wicket for 23 runs from 4 overs. Spinners Hamilton and Neverson also took a wicket each. The masters bowling attack blessed with years of experience tried to conceal the truth of victory from the lawmen. Off spinner John Jeffers bowled 5 wonderful overs as he took three wickets from 5 overs for 37 runs. Joseph Gumbs and Kali Rogers also took a wicket each. Reginald Carty was the most economical bowler with figures of 5 overs for 24 runs but did not get any wickets. The Lawmen responded in fine style to the resistance of the Masters. Mathew Jordan batted his way to a well-earned 68, spending over an hour at the crease. He was ably assisted with 27 from John Milington, which included 5 fours. Josiah John 14 and Neville Hamilton 12 also made useful contributions. Nearing the end of the match the Police began loosing a flurry of wickets as the heavens started opening. In the end the Police scored 150 runs from 20 overs, while only losing 5 wickets, consequently getting to victory.
A.L.H.C.S vs the Blue Jays
The Spartans (School boys) and Farrington Blue Jays squared off on Sunday in what was a very entertaining match. Former Leeward Islands opener Alex Adams was off to the races as he spanked all Spartan bowlers to all sides of the field, with an ensuing mantra “timber for sale”. Alex Adams played his way to a beautiful 71. However his teams were not so well treated by Flamethrower Kelbert Walters. He trapped Keith Carty AKA “Repeater” leg before wicket, for a duck. He soon struck again when he uprooted the wicket of Eddie Issac for 1. Walters showed his aggression when he bounced batsman B. Taylor, striking him in the helmet, producing some “sweet grill music”. Captain Terrance Adams of the Blue jays rescued his team with a well-played 45. Adams made no attempts to conceal his intentions as he blasted the school attack. However this aggression played well in the hands of young Shredath Rey, as he had Adams caught by the wicket keeper. The Blue jays scored a total of 152 runs from 27 overs. Kelbert Walters hereinafter referred to as
Kelbert “Head Hunter” Walters was the pick of the school bowlers with figures of 6 wickets for 40 runs from 6 overs. Shredath Rey also took 2 wickets for 21 runs from 5 overs. Replying to the Blue Jays total, flamboyant opening batsman Chesney Hughes played several magnificent strokes as he scored 52 runs from 42 balls. Hughes looked set to push for a century but succumbed to the wizardry of off spinner Alex Adams. Opening batsman Randal Lake played some classic strokes to get 33 runs from 43 balls. However Daniel Proctor’s guile had lake caught by Taylor. All-purpose player, Travis Carter felt left out so he took the wicket of batsman Jamar Hamilton as he scored 30 from 34 balls. Shredath Rey 16 not out and Kelbert “Head Hunter” Walters 9 not out steered the ALHCS Spartans home to victory.
