Below are excerpts of a post game interview given by West Indies coach David Moore.
On how quickly the end came:
It was ugly in the end, it looked like a pretty meek surrender. There was some encouragement in the middle. [Dwayne] Bravo and [Runako] Morton were going well and unfortunately Morton fell for the three card trick and got out and then it was a pretty quick exit after that. It was a bit disappointing in the end.
On whether it is a worry that the batsmen are not exercising enough patience:
It gets to a point where they sometimes don't actually realize we've got to play for five days. They need to be aware that five day cricket with X number of overs per day is something that they need to bat the whole way through. We saw England do it and we couldn't do it twice so it's important to be able to occupy the crease, that's just basic cricket.
On whether this being the biggest defeat in West Indian history is a fair reflection of where the team is:
I wouldn't think so. It might be a reflection on our inconsistency but not necessarily a reflection on where the team is at. We get to a situation where we hung in there and did very well in the first Test [at Lord's] but then unfortunately we get to a point where we can't string two innings together [at Headingley]. [It's] not necessarily a reflection of where they are at but their history over the last few years. We could be so good one Test and then very disappointing the next one.
On whether there is further news on captain Ramnaresh Sarwan's injury:
We'll assess Ronnie's fitness in the next day or so and we'll make a decision on where he is at and what he's going to be doing over the next few weeks. So there is nothing further to report as of yet. As soon as we make a decision on where Sars is at, we won't be playing one short. So if Sars is ruled out for a long period of time the replacement will be called as soon as possible. We haven't made any decisions as yet.
On whether the batsmen were not capable of handling the swinging ball:
The ball swung but we played four poor shots in the first innings and a number of poor shots in the second innings which really had nothing to do with the swinging ball. It had more to do with poor shot selection. We just didn't select our shots well enough on occasion and that led to losing wickets at the wrong times.
On whether he is losing faith in the batsmen:
I've got faith in all the blokes in our batting line up. I've seen them bat and bat very well during Test matches. I've got faith in all our batters, it's just that we need to be more consistent. I haven't lost any faith in any of our batters but I need to get them more consistent with their batting and that will come from hard work and practice and commitment to the task.
On whether heads and confidence dropped after Sarwan got injured:
I would hope not. That's professional cricket, you are dealt cards and you do as well as you can. [Sarwan's injury] leaves a big hole in our batting. We can't allow anything to get in our way, it doesn't do what we are trying to achieve any good by dropping confidence.
On whether the other bowlers in the squad will be considered for the third Test:
We've been looking at it from the first Test. We're going to try and assess who we think are the best bowlers to take us through every Test match. Over the last few games, the three that we took into this game have been doing the job for us. In the Test series in Pakistan they did a reasonable job for us, throughout the World Cup they did a reasonable job so we had confidence in them. At the end of every game you assess where your players are at and who is going to contribute to give us the best chance to win the game so there will be questions asked on both the batting and bowling side.
On Shivnarine Chanderpaul being available for the third Test:
Shivy will be alright for the next Test, we expect him to be alright for the next Test.
