DURHAM, United Kingdom – West Indies fast bowler Ravi Rampaul sustained a minor (grade one) groin tear (right) while bowling against the MCC XI at the Racecourse Ground on Friday June 1st.Rampaul underwent an MRI scan at a local hospital which revealed the extent of the injury and team physiotherapist Stephen Partridge has confirmed that he has been ruled out of contention for the third npower Test match against England to be played at Old Trafford starting on June 7th.
Rampaul's progress will be assessed after the third Test to determine his further availability.
Rampaul will not bowl in the remainder of the match against the MCC XI.
Opening batsman Chris Gayle suffered a minor tear to his rib muscle (left) while bowling against the MCC XI and has been advised by Partridge not to bowl in the remainder of the match.
While Gayle is expected to bat, no undue risk will be taken and he will not field in the remainder of the MCC XI first innings.
Gayle has not been ruled out of contention for the third Test match against England.
