image DURHAM, United Kingdom – West Indies wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin scored his highest first class score against the MCC XI at the Racecourse Ground on the final day of the three day warm up game on Sunday.

After his sizzling 131 from 163 deliveries and with 16 fours and three sixes, Ramdin spoke with the media about his innings and the drawn game. Following are excerpts from his responses.

On his innings:
I needed to spend some time at the crease. I knew once I spent the first hour out there things would be easy afterwards. I was well supported by Jerome Taylor, Daren Powell and Fidel Edwards who was there with me when I got my hundred.

On initially being cautious and how he paced his innings:
Having spent time at the crease I got adjusted to the pitch, the bounce and the bowlers. I looked at each bowler and played them in the right manner and waited on the bad balls to take my opportunities to score boundaries while rotating the strike at other times.

On whether the innings will improve his confidence after ordinary performances with the bat at Headingley:
I am feeling very confident but I have to continue to work hard. There is a lot more improvements to make for the Test match at Old Trafford but I will remain confident. I have to be mentally strong and remain fit and do the job for the team.

On whether he is looking forward to keeping wicket at Headingley:
I have been working with some specially designed swinging balls and taped up balls and I have been doing a lot better now in terms of my wicketkeeping. I have kept wicket in Australia where the pitches are bouncy so I think I am able to keep wicket on bouncy tracks such as Old Trafford.

On the importance of batting and bowling well during the three day game:
In the last Test match we did not bat well at all. A couple of the guys got starts but they did not carry on so we all needed to go out there and spend time in the middle during this match and capitalize on the conditions and go on and get big scores. Runako Morton did that and got his highest first class score and I tried to do the same thing today as well. Also we wanted the bowlers to go out and put the ball in the right areas. Jerome Taylor did that and he was rewarded with five wickets and he was backed up by Fidel Edwards who bowled with a lot of pace and aggression.

On the mood in the camp:
We had a long talk after the second Test match at Headingley. The guys know where we went wrong and we came out in this game against the MCC XI for our batters to get it right and the bowlers to put the ball in the right areas. Overall we enjoyed the last three days of cricket and we are looking forward to putting on a good show in Manchester.
