BIRMINGHAM, United Kingdom - Inspired yet again by Chanderpaul the West Indies levelled the three match One Day Series with England 1-1.

Summary:
West Indies
278 for 5 (Chanderpaul 116*, Samuels 77*) beat England 217 (Prior 52, Rampaul 4-41) by 61 runs

The West Indies captain Chris Gayle spoke with the media after the second One Day International at Edgbaston. Following are excerpts from his responses to various issues raised with him by journalists.

On Shivnarine Chanderpaul moving up the order to number three:
I thought it paid off well. He batted through to the end which was tremendous. That partnership with him and Marlon (Samuels) put us back in the game.

On whether he is concerned that there is an over-reliance on Chanderpaul:
He is our 'in form' batter so we have to rely on him to carry the guys. We play around him. It has worked in this game, hopefully it will be the same (in the final game).

On whether Chanderpaul is the best batsman in the world at the moment:
He is one of the best batsmen in the world. You have to give him credit, he has done the work in the past and he is doing it again.

On Chanderpaul being such a versatile batsman:
I've said in the past that Shiv can destroy any attack whenever he wants. He plays according to the situation and he can step it up when he needs to. I've opened with him several times and he has outscored me many times already so he is capable of scoring quickly.

On Chanderpaul's incredible strengths of concentrations:
You have to give him credit for that as well. I don't know how he does it, I'll ask him and maybe try and learn a few things.

On whether he was happy with the target score posted by West Indies:
There was a slow period in the middle (of the innings) but the guys made up for it in the end so the effort can not be faulted, you have to give them credit for that.

On whether the morale in the fielding pleases him:
It's tremendous. We've been doing a lot of fielding with Julien (Fountain, the fielding coach). The guys have been putting in the work so the hard work is paying off right now, one more game to go so hopefully we can continue and better our performances in this game.

On whether there was serious tension between opposing players during the match:
Those guys have been playing cricket against each other for quite some time now so it is nothing personal. They have been at it already. We're just trying to get on top of them as early as possible. They did the same thing so it is a little 'vice versa' as they say. There is nothing personal, it's part of the game and I hope anyone doesn't take it too seriously.

On whether he enjoys the intensity:
I enjoyed it. I think the bowlers did a tremendous job from the last game. (Daren) Powell and (Ravi) Rampaul leading the way and Fidel Edwards came in the middle and restricted them so it was good all-round cricket. Everything was combined in this game and this is what I've asked for, I've got it, we got a win and we can't complain.

On whether the West Indies has to play aggressively to be at their best:
In cricket we need to be more determined, if we can get on top of opponents earlier it will better our cricket some more.

On if the West Indies wins the series it being a feather in his cap:
That would be a big big big thing, I can't even describe it right now if we win the series. We will keep our fingers crossed, play some basic cricket, go out there and just do the right thing.
