Another Asian Sub-Continental Team Goes Packing

Pity on the man that needs Bermuda to win at the Cricket World Cup (CWC), to save his life. Such is the plight of India after being comprehensively defeated by a superior Sri Lankan side in Trinidad on Friday. The Indians came to the Caribbean as a favoured member of the top 8 cricketing nations with SA, Aus, Eng, Pak, NZ, SR and WI being the others. In their final preliminary match they decimated the West Indies in a manner that suggested they were ready to compete against and defeat their counterparts (Trelawny Stadium, Jamaica West Indies 85 (25.5 ov)  India 86/1 (18.3 ov)).

However, in this the 2007 CWC , when matched against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bermuda, India only managed to defeat Bermuda who have themselves been demolished in each of their encounters. The only hope of the Indians unpacking their suitcases is if the same Bermudans defeat Bangladesh on Sunday - an unlikely scenario. The end result most likely will be that the Indians and Pakistanis, eliminated by Ireland,  could possibly take the same flight back.

The Result: Sri Lanka 254 for 6 (Tharanga 64, Silva 59) beat India 185 (Dravid 60) by 69 runs

The Gayle that continues to lose its wind.

Before a packed Sabina Park in Jamaica, the West Indies once again played well enough to defeat a much weaker team but at least on this occasion there were positive signs in the right places.

The Bad: Gayle being dismissed for 18, with 24 runs on the board and Sarwan scrapping through 36 runs in 71 balls. .

The Good: Samuels knocked a confident unbeaten 27 in 31 balls and Chanderpaul returned to good form with 102 in 113 balls.
