"Can the West Indies win the series? Of course anything is possible, but evidence suggests this will be the series that cements the decline of West Indies cricket and washes the distant memories of grandeur out to sea. "

What Next For Windies March 10th, 2007.

On Thursday March 29th 2007 in a near empty Sir Vivian Richards stadium in Antigua, the West Indies suffered a second crushing defeat in as many days, this time against New Zealand who won by 7 wickets (with 64 balls remaining).

The Scores: West Indies 177 (44.4 ov) New Zealand 179/3 (39.2 ov).

The Good: DB Powell bowled 10 overs 2 maidens 39runs 2 wickets at a rate of  3.90

The Bad:
The West Indies did not even survive 50 Overs. More of the same from the "star" batting line-up that more often than not, fails to even twinkle.  The sad truth is that in the absence of a major adjustment Sarwan will never achieve what all of us once thought he was capable of. Fundamentally his cricketing mind is weak and he lacks the technical skill that would propel him in the class of a fine batsman. Gayle appears frustrated and his inability to compliment his power and stroke play with intelligence remains his major undoing. Perhaps a team psychiatrist will do him more good than a batting coach. When it comes to Chanderpaul, well everyone has a bad day and truthfully speaking, if they all had the temperament and ability of Chanderpaul the team would be much better off. Bravo ??, Samuels ???, Dwayne Smith ???? , Ramdin ?????

The Missing Fans: The empty stands in Antigua for the second super-8 West Indies match against  New Zealand at least shows that the current West Indies team has successfully managed to drain the energy, from the most passionate and energetic cricket fans in the world. The rudder is broken and the fans are not rallying - the sad reality is that the West Indies cricket team is not worth it. Respect is earned not inherited.
