TRINIDAD AND Tobago rebounded from their four-wicket opening round loss to the Windward Islands on Tuesday to spank 2006 title-holders Jamaica by 79 runs in their CLICO West Indies Under-15 cricket championship match at Syne Village, Penal yesterday.

The hosts were bowled out for 179 on the last ball of their allotted 50 overs with Sachin Boodram top-scoring with 61, inclusive of six fours and a six and Rixon Mannieram, who was later adjudged Man of the Match, contributing 54 (seven fours). Damoen Reid was the leading bowler for Jamaica with four wickets for 36 runs while Jonathan Solomon had two for 21.

Excluding knocks of 37 from Jermaine Blackwood and 34 from John Campbell, the remaining Jamaican batsmen had no answers to the spin of Boodram (2/13) and captain Yannic Cariah (2/24), and were bundled out for 100 in 40.2 overs. Mannieram had a superb time with the gloves, effecting four stumpings.

The Windwards sealed their second straight victory with an 87-run thrashing of Guyana at the Diamond Recreation Ground, Ste Madeleine.

Batting first, the Windwards were dismissed for 171 in 47 overs with Kaven Hodge leading the way with 42 while Dwight Thomas contributed 23 and Kirt Edwards an unbeaten 22.

In the Guyanese attack, Seon Daniel did the most damage with 4/41 while Joemal La Fleur and Trinson Carmichael got two wickets apiece.

In reply, Guyana had no answer to Man of the Match Durani Charles, who captured 5/8 from 8.4 overs with his medium pace while spinner Audi Alexander claimed two for 20 as the “Boys from the Mainland” were skittled out for 84 in 32.4 overs.

Shameer Fazal and Daniel notched 17 apiece for Guyana, who have now lost both their encounters. Barbados won their second successive match when they trounced the Leeward Islands by six wickets at the Barataria Oval.

Man of the Match Jomel Warrican claimed four for 26 with his left-arm spin while Marquez Clarke took three for 13 and fellow pacer Omar Douglas two for 25 as the Leewards were bundled out for 103 in 24.5 overs.

Sheryl Burns offered the lone resistance for the Leewards with 32 while Adelvin Phillip chipped in with 15. Bajan captain Anthony Alleyne led the victory quest with 26 while Roston Chase added 24 as they reached 105 for four in 26.1 overs.

Third round action will be contested tomorrow with TT hosting Guyana at the Inshan Ali Park in Preysal, Jamaica opposing Barbados at Gilbert Park in Couva while the Islanders, Leewards and Windwards, will square off at the Aranjuez Savannah.
