On Sunday June 17, a clear blue sunny sky and a full Webster Park served as the back drop for the CONCACAF U20 female football match between St. Kitts and Anguilla.

Anguilla drew first blood when midfield sensation Jaynell Lake sent a low cross from the left wing to speedy forward Kristie ”the twin” Webster. Young Webster wasted no time as she drove the ball to the back of the net with a powerful instep in the 6th minute of the game.

St. Kitts did not retreat but through the relentless efforts of Tracy “T-Mac” Springer, they fought their way back into the contest. “T-Mac” dribbled through the left side splitting Anguillian defenders like discarded corn stalks. She then blasted the ball in the top right hand corner to level the scores. This encouraged the onslaught of the St. Kitts attack, however the defensive line of Karissa Lake, Khadeema Hodge, Glenicia Richardson and Shakela Romney worked hard to stop stem the tide.

The Anguilla-show was on display in the second half. Melisa Anderson and Jaynell Lake were like stars shining brightly. ST.Kitts however, would not have any stars shining and several hard body checks left Melisa Anderson begging for the cold spray but also earned her team a yellow card penalty kick. Claudeena ‘Deena” Richardson took the free kick which rebounded from the wall, and like a hawk, Kennisha Xavier lashed a bullet to the back of the net, giving Anguilla the go ahead goal. Anguilla won the match with a score line of 2-1.

Anguilla plays St. Kitts in the return leg in St.Kitts on July 1st. The winner of this encounter advances to the zone which include Antigua, Cuba and Barbados.
