Another West Indies crisis appears imminent after Chris Gayle refused to back down from a published article harshly criticizing the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). Part of his cricinfo blog criticising the board read:
"The WICB says they want the best out of players but we also need the best out of the board," said Gayle in his diary. "The board is always talking about players needing to change but we, the players, need changes from the board as well. We can't be out in the wilderness all the time because we are the ones who are getting all the blame."
West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) President, Ken Gordon, and the Team Manager Michael Findlay met on Monday June 24, with Gayle to discuss the statement which according to the WICB, preceded by an earlier outburst for which he had been cautioned.
After lengthy discussions, the board requested a public apology from the senior player for his "unfortunate and ill-advised statement" which Gayle has subsequently refused to issue.
In the circumstances, the WICB has issued a very strongly-worded letter of reprimand to Mr. Gayle advising him that his conduct is totally unacceptable and that the WICB will pursue this matter at the end of the tour.
The WICB is hopeful that notwithstanding his unwillingness to apologise, Mr. Gayle will understand the seriousness of his actions and avoid any further statements or behaviour that will force the WICB to take drastic and immediate action against him.

The board has a poor stock of player to choose from and the players seem to lack the ability to improve on weaknesses. I think Gayle needs to EARN the right to criticize the board. When he starts to play good cricket then he can talk

While the players do share some of the blame for the current state of affairs. The WICB share the majority of if for failure in the last 15 years or more to provide a professional and nuturing atmosphere where our young crickets can perform excel. In stead while every toher nation was realizing the cricket is professional sport and needs professionals and experts to run its a affairs and nuture our young cricketers we were sitting back on our laurels and doing nothing. The crisis we have now has been almost 20 years in the making.
