The first match in Sunday’s Anguilla Female Football League double-header saw Shining Stars play against D’Youngsters.  Both formidable foes stood toe-to-toe against each other, as stout defense and periodic offensive attacks kept everyone in check.  Shining Stars sensational midfield duo of Claudena Richardson and Jaynelle Lake tried to bedazzle their opponents with guile and smarts.  However none of these stunts worked.

As the first half progressed, the effects of fatigue effervesced to the surfaced on both teams.  D’Youngsters made an error in not clearing the ball and Isabella Rosario was happy to pound it into the net.  Suddenly D’Youngsters jumped to life as talented midfielder Kenisha Xavier scored with a well-placed shot in the right corner of the goal.   The Shining Stars were not prepared to give up the fight as Glenicia “Boom Boom Richardson sent a bomb pass goal keeper Esther Ward who could nothing but watch it go into the net.

As the second half progressed the Shining Stars were supporting a 2:1 lead and were confident of victory.  However young striker  equalized the score with a wonderful strike of her own.  The match ended in the only matter befitting, a 2-2 draw.

Cagey striker Shelicia Williams of the Lil Soldiers was on the sideline convalescing wounds sustained in battle last week and supporting her team as they played against Gazelles.  Her team wasted no time in establishing their dominance.

Melisa Anderson and katurah Caines worked like a well-oiled machine; as they passed and duped the Gazelles.  The hard efforts of the entire team resulted in a goal by Melissa Anderson in the 26th minute.  Despite being down 1-0, the Gazelles had several occasions to score but fleet footed striker Krystal Webster “the Twin” was unable to convert.  As the second half rolled around Lil Soldiers stuck with the Katurah Caines, Melisa Anderson Attack strategy.  Consequently Melisa Anderson made another entry into her account as she scored in the 60th minute.  Her teammate Katurah Caines soon reaped the rewards of her efforts as she scored in the 69th minute.

The Gazelles were distraught but they fought and came close but again could not convert.  The game ended in a Lil Soldiers 3 Gazelles 0 defeat.
