TAUNTON, United Kingdom – West Indies fast bowler Corey Collymore rejected the suggestion by English journalists that he may be rusty going into the first Test against England starting at Lord's on May 17th. "I wouldn't say I'm rusty, I'm good to go," the right arm quick said while flashing his trademark broad smile.
He did admit though that the abandoned warm up game against Somerset was not the best manner to prepare for Test cricket.
"It could be a bit irritating, obviously you would like to get out in the middle and get the arm going and get a few balls in and get accustomed to the conditions but we're all professionals, we had the indoor center to get a few steps to run up and get a few balls in," explained the 29 year old.
"It's not ideal to do all the work indoors but I think our guys are capable enough, most of the bowlers would have played Test matches before and they would know what their job is so they should be ready," assured the right arm seam bowling specialist.
He said that while he did not play any cricket since the Windies World Cup campaign he did manage to get in some training sessions with his club in Barbados and several gym sessions as well.
Collymore, the most experienced West Indian bowler will be expected to lead the bowling attack against a dangerous English batting line up in their own backyard. He said his knowledge of the conditions should assist him in his task.
"This is my third senior tour here and I played a bit of county cricket and league cricket as well so I know a bit about the conditions," Collymore said.
He also said that the bowling group in the squad is gelling nicely as they are all familiar with each other.
"We train together, we're accustomed to each other from regional cricket in the Caribbean so that should be good for us," Collymore said.
He also said that despite the team not having a good World Cup experience that the morale in the group is good.
"We obviously had a disappointing World Cup, we now have a few fresh faces in the group, not new faces because these guys have been in and out of the team, we all rally around each other, we know each other from Under 19 days and some even from Under 15 so morale is good," Collymore said.
He also said that as a professional he finds no great difficulty bowling in any conditions around the world but observed that the English conditions have always been more favoured by seam bowlers since they are offered greater assistance.
